The Lord Mayor wows children at HAF camp

“I was so excited and thrilled to meet the Lord Mayor of Leicester.  I was happy that we made pizzas together and he called us experts as we were instructing him on how to make a pizza.  I also got to see his car with a small flag on it”.  This was how Hasnain Shaikh told his family about the Lord Mayor’s visit to Evington Youth Club on Thursday 14th April.  The children were making their own pizzas for their lunch and the Lord Mayor joined in with gusto, asking for their advice at every stage.  They had huge fun together.

The Lord Mayor was visiting Evington Youth Club partly to see the Easter holiday activities provided by the Council’s HAF programme but mainly to say a formal thankyou to Wickes of Thurmaston for their amazing donation to the club of a brand new kitchen without which the whole programme (and the pizza making) could not have taken place.  Russel Smith, the Manager of Wickes, Thurmaston, was enthusiastic in his support for the project as part of the new Wickes Community Programme and was delighted to be there to accept the Lord Mayor’s thanks on behalf of Wickes.

The HAF programme is being run by the City Council to provide activities and meals for children during the Easter holidays.  Richard Moore Sports CIC was responsible for organising the event at Evington Youth Club and the children who took part clearly had a lot of fun.  They are now hoping for more events like these in future holidays.
